The Problem:

Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) is a major public health problem in India, second only to HIV/AIDS. The estimated HBV carrier rate in India is 4 percent, with a total pool of approximately 40 million carriers. The virus is blood-borne and spreads through bodily fluids. Although many people have access to most other vaccinations, Hepatitis B vaccinations are very expensive and are not easily accessible, especially in rural areas. More than 600,000 Indians die each year due to complications from Hepatitis B.

How We Help:

CIF travels to schools in remote villages in the states of Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, with plans of expansion to other states. There, CIF sets up clinics to offer free vaccinations to schoolchildren whose families cannot afford the price of a vaccination. Three doses of the vaccination offers a child lifelong protection against this disease. Your generous donation of $10.00 will go towards three vaccinations for a child, preventing them from potentially life-threatening diseases such as liver cancer and cirrhosis. As a member with us, you are helping to provide an underprivileged child with a healthy future. So far CIF has vaccinated more than 5000 children in 22 schools.
